Pivot Tables – Flexible Reporting on the Fly

Pivot tables are an exciting way to slice and dice your data in ways that are meaningful to your practice. We’ve provided a list of all of our pivot tables below. For more information on the parts of a pivot table, check out Pivot Tables – Defining the Elements.

What is a Pivot Table?

A pivot table is a data summarization that can automatically sort, total, or average data.

Why Use a Pivot Table?

Pivot tables allow you to look at the same data in many different ways. For example, if you want to look at Procedure Sales, you can sort and total by Provider, Facility, Procedure Category, or all of the above.

You can also view the detail records that are included in each number, and copy those detail records to Mail Merge to send an email or text to those patients.

Viewing Detail Records in a Pivot Table

The top reasons to look at the detail records in a pivot table are to confirm the accuracy of the report and data entry, and to communicate with a specific set of patients.

Occasionally, a number in a pivot table may look wrong to you. To confirm the accuracy of that number, just double click on it and the Pivot Details window will appear. While reviewing the detail, you will frequently identify inaccurate data entry. Once the data entry is corrected, you my Generate the report to see the corrected numbers.

If you want to send an email or text to a certain group of patients (e.g. New patients entered in the system), just open the Pivot Details window and select Copy to Mail Merge.

Filtering Results in Pivot Tables

Each pivot table result set includes the ability to remove values by clicking on the tornado on the upper right hand edge of the title. When you click the tornado, a list of the possible values in that result set are displayed and you select or deselect any value.

Note: the tornado filter shows only the values in the result set, not all possible values in the system. Also, you may not see the tornado unless you hover over the top right corner of each label.
